Nicola Pedde – Director-General

Nicola Pedde (1967), after graduating in Law (La Sapienza University, Faculty of Law), obtained a Master’s degree in International Relations (St. John’s University) and then a Ph.D. in Economic Geography (La Sapienza University, Faculty of Economics), focusing his studies on the analysis of regional relations and the evolution of security policies in the countries of the Middle East and Africa.

He carried out his professional activity initially in the field of research at the University of Rome La Sapienza (Faculty of Economics), for the Institute for Geopolitical and Geoeconomic Studies (ISGEo), and at the High Studies Center for Defense – Military Center for Strategic Studies. In the context of activities at the Ministry of Defense, he held the position of Political Advisor (POLAD) at national commands and international missions.

Since 2005, he has been with IGS – Institute for Global Studies, where he is mainly involved in the analysis of political systems in the Middle East and Africa and directs the research program “Mediterranean, Africa, and the Middle East.”

Nicola Pedde teaches “Geopolitics of Energy and the Environment” at the Faculty of Political Science of Roma Tre, and previously taught “Politics and Institutions of the countries of the Middle East” and “Economics and Politics of Energy” at the University of Rome La Sapienza, the American University of Rome, and John Cabot University.

e has published numerous academic and popular articles and written several monographs, including “Geopolitics of Energy” (Carocci, 2001) and “1979-The Revolution in Iran” (Rosemberg & Sellier, 2019).
